Rep. Wismer Has Strong Showing at Farmers Union Debate

Press Release

Rep. Susan Wismer, Democratic candidate for governor, had a strong showing at today's South Dakota Farmers Union gubernatorial debate at the State Fair. She discussed the need to provide resources to counties to improve roads, focus on strengthening education, and manage the Governor's Office of Economic Development more responsibly. Rep. Wismer also spoke about making education a top priority and challenged Governor Daugaard to put the entire fleet of state vehicles on E30.

"I am where I am today because my uncle, my grandfather, and people of their generation invested in K-12 education. It takes more than low taxes and great hunting to keep kids in our state. We are chasing our brightest young minds right out of our state," said Rep. Wismer.

Wismer, a small business owner and member of the State House of Representatives from Britton, also talked about the need to expand Medicaid and seeking a balanced perspective by involving both parties in discussions to best address issues facing the state.

"We need to change our priorities from taking care of Pierre to taking care of the people of South Dakota," said Rep. Wismer.

The next gubernatorial candidate debate is on September 24. It will be hosted and broadcasted by KSOO Radio.
